The Author

 

 Armiger "Jay" Jagoe is a native of Mississippi who attended Harvard University before entering the U. S. Air Force in 1941.  During WWII with the 12th Air Force in Corsica, he flew 77 combat missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross with two clusters.  After serving in the European theater until 1945, he began his career with the Hartford Insurance Group

           
In Washington, D.C., Mr. Jagoe founded CIMA, an insurance brokerage and risk management organization, which he sold to his employees in 1988. He was a co-founder and principal in Protectogon, a consulting firm representing clients interesting in acquiring insurance companies.
  

 He has served on the boards of
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, SIGNET Bank, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, the National Association of Casualty and Surety Agents and other national corporations. Currently, he is chairman of the Dulin Goodwill Foundation and on the board of Vehicles for Change, an organization he co-founded in 2000 to provide cars for persons on welfare.  It has proved to be the most successful of this type operation in America. 


In addition to his business and professional life, Jay Jagoe has a long history of civic and social involvement.  In 1967 he conceived the idea for and was founder of 
Bonabond, a government supported program to aid ex-convicts. This pilot project subsequently served as a model for the Federal Bonding Program that has provided bonds for over 35,000 ex-convicts. He was co-founder of Handicapped Artists and the Business Kids Program, introducing inner-city children to the business world  

             
At Holy Redeemer Church in Kensington, Maryland, he served as president of the parish council and taught high school students.   Throughout his career, he was president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, District of Columbia Association of Insurance Agents, Kiwanis Club of Washington, Salvation Army and Davis Memorial Goodwill Industries.


Currently, he is an active volunteer at Providence Hospital, Project Share, and Manor Care.  He and his wife initiated the Joyful Painting Program, which encourages watercolor artists to donate paintings to be rotated every week in patients’ rooms in not-for-profit nursing homes.

He has recently published You Are Next In Line, Everyone's Guide for Writing Your Autobiography This summer, he published the much anticipated Southern Boy, This is his poignant autobiographical story of growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast during the 1920s and 1930s
